Best Smartphones Under $200 [2016]

Getting a good smartphone is quite easy, but yet it is difficult to find a great smartphone at an affordable price. What you get instead at a lower price are a terrible phone with poor battery life, terrible screen, poor performance. This article is focused on quality budget smartphones that are less than $200, though will give you a quality performance worth more than your money.

Moto G4

Ever since Moto G was released, it has topped our list of best affordable Android phones you can get out there. There has been improvement every year on the phone. In 2016, the fourth generation of this phone was named Moto G4. One of the models is one with a fingerprint scanner and some other upgrade on the previous version. The other model is the base model that goes for $199, and that indeed is very cheap for such a price.

This phone is packaged with 32GB of storage with an expandable storage micro-SD slot or a bigger 5.5-inch 1080p Full HD display, a big 3,000 mAh battery, 2GB of RAM, and much improved the 13-megapixel camera. It’s impressive to know that all of these features still go for that same price of $199.

Another model is the Moto G4 Plus that has a fingerprint scanner, and it has more storage and many other options on Moto G remains one of the best smartphones you can ever get at such an affordable price.

Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3

Surprisingly, Alcatel that has not been known to make cheap quality smartphones came up with Idol 3 in 2015. This phone has a 4.7-inch display and goes for just $179. And even till halfway through 2016 this phone still sells for as low as $149. This indeed is a great budget smartphone. It has 5mp front camera setup and 13 megapixel rear, and lot more. Unfortunately, the battery is just 2,000 mAh making the G4 a preferable route

Some of the features of Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 include an attractive 4.7-inch 720p HD display, 16GB of internal storage and a micro-SD slot, 1.5 GB of RAM, a fast quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor, a quite impressive dual front facing speakers and two remarkable cameras (13 megapixel rear and 5mp front camera setup) and many more. ,

Although the battery of this phone is quite weak with just 2,000 mAh, with a lesser display, the battery life can be elongated. This phone sounds good, looks premium sleek, runs great, and it’s affordable. There is a new Idol 4 available, but couldn’t make this list as the price is quite high though it’s quite a great phone.

ASUS ZenFone 2

Everyone needs part of the Motorola budget phones, and so far in 2016 Motorola is still leading. Just like many computers, ASUS ZenFone 2 runs an Intel processor, instead of what Android Phones usually run with. This phone is a good option even though it’s almost a year old

This phone has a nice feel, premium look, and decent specs, all for just $199. It also comes with a 1.8 GHz quad-core Intel processor, a large 5.5-inch Full HD display 1920 x 1200, internal storage of 16GB, RAM of 2GB, large 3,000 mAh battery, 5 MP front cameras and 13 megapixel rear, it is also in support of the 4G LTE on all GSM carriers (therefore no US Cellular, Sprint, or Verizon) but with function well with other carriers.

The features include the latest Android 6.0 Lollipop, and this Asus comes with four colors. It comes in different colors such as Red, Black, Gold or Silver, all for just $199 or even for a cheaper price on sale. There are also versions available which have 64GB storage, and 4GB of RAM faster processor which is quite impressive although costlier than ASUS ZenFone 2. ZenFone 3 the latest version in 2016 couldn’t make this list because of the cost, but it is a great phone to have.

Moto E 2nd Gen

If you budget to go for a very cheap phone, then you should consider Moto E. The new Moto E comes with a quad-core processor, the screen is bigger than the Moto E released in 2014 having 4.5-inches. It has a 4G LTE and Android Lollipop in a small package for just $149. The only issue with this phone is the low screen resolution of 960 x 540. The initial model of Moto E came with a dual front facing speakers, but has now been replaced with this model with a bigger screen and 4G LTE. All these features for just $149 is quite impressive, though, so you can make your choice. The phone is also more than a year old by now, but with such a price, there is nothing else that can match it in United States apart from Chinese phones.

The Moto E 2015 comes with the recent Marshmallow Android 6.0.1, and so many other impressive features to offer as a low budget phone. If you want to go for a low budget phone, you should go for this, or you consider spending a little more by going for Moto G4.or go for Huawei  which is discussed below

Huawei Honor 5x

Huawei Honor 5x is the most recent but not the cheapest anyway, but it is potentially the best in the budget market. This phone is in every way as good as the Moto G4, but it hasa fingerprint scanner and made of metal. In early January at CES 2016, the Huawei Honor 5x was announced and went on sale for $199 on January 31st. This is indeed a great phone with impressive features at an affordable price.

The Huawei Honor 5x is made almost entirely of metal, with the looks and feel of a premium phone, but only costs $199. It has a 5.5-inch Full HD display (1920 x 1080p), with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8-core processor that is budget-minded. It has 2GB RAM capacity, has a storage that can amount to 16GB, a fingerprint scanner on the back, 5MP camera and a 13 megapixel rear.

Considering the features like a fingerprint scanner on the back, 5MP camera and a 13 megapixel rear, micro-SD card, and metal design for just $199, then it is indeed the potential best budget phone in the market. The only shortcoming of the phone compared to Moto G4 is that the Marshmallow software in it isn’t stock Android. But looking away from that, this is an excellent phone that is worth the price or even more. It comes in different colors like Gold, White and Silver and available for sale on Huawei, Amazon, Newegg, and all other retailers.
